A graduate of the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, Del Priore earned an M.D. with Distinction in Research at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in physics at Cornell University. He completed a residency in ophthalmology and fellowships in vitreoretinal surgery and glaucoma at the Wilmer Eye Institute of the John Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Del Priore has served on the faculties of Washington University School of Medicine and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey; Columbia University, where he was appointed professor; and the Storm Eye Institute at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he recently served as the Pierre Gautier Jenkins Professor and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology. He came to Yale in July 2016 as chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science and chief of ophthalmology at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Dr. Del Priore is a widely published contributor to peer-reviewed journals. He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Ophthalmology and on the scientific advisory board of the Foundation Fighting Blindness. He has been an invited lecturer on the treatment of retinal diseases at universities and professional organizations throughout the United States, as well as in Asia and Europe.
