OREANDA-NEWS. Average air temperatures for the period from May to July in the Northern Hemisphere will be above normal with a 70% probability, therefore the forecast map presented by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is colored red. The scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand told RIA Novosti about this.

Wilfand said: “There is an overview of how these centers release their forecasts and how they can be compiled. The forecast is May, June, July ... This is not a definitive forecast. Here are the concepts: above the climatic norm, below this norm, the climatic norm. Everywhere in the Northern Hemisphere it is shaded in red, which corresponds to a probability of more than 70% that the class will be above normal. "

He noted that in the territory of European Russia and the Urals, the probability that the temperature will be above normal is about 50%, and in the Asian part, the probability is more than 60%.

The scientist said that the WMO forecast for the territory of Russia coincided with the forecast of Russian meteorologists made earlier. According to Vilfand, the forecast is probabilistic in nature and is a reference point for the professional community. So far, meteorologists cannot predict the weather for such an extended period.

Wilfand also drew attention to the "white spots" on the WMO map, which shows the probability of precipitation in May, June, July. According to Wilfand, white means that even a probabilistic forecast of precipitation is impossible.
