OREANDA-NEWS. November 30, 2012. The Head of the Department of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) for Control of Advertising and Unfair Competition, Nikolai Kartashov, addressed the Round Table “Unified Competition Policy is a Necessary Condition of Effective Functioning of the Common Economic Space” in Grodno (the Republic of Belarus). The Round Table involved representatives of the Office of the President of the Republic of Belarus and the Office of the Government of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Economics and the heads of the antimonopoly bodies and business community, reported the press-centre of FAS.   

The Round Table discussed the issues of providing equal competition conditions on the markets of the three countries of the Common Economic Space – Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. First of all, the Round Table focused on the issues of protecting intellectual property (trademarks), removing barriers for mutual trade, and ensuring non-discriminatory market access of economic entities of the countries – members of the Common Economic Space as well as harmonization and improvement of the competition law.

Nikolai Kartashov made a presentation “Unfair Competition in Intellectual Property” where he gave examples of unlawful use of intellectual property and discussed the mechanisms of protecting brand marks under the Federal Law “On Protection of Competition” and prospective developments in this field.
