OREANDA-NEWS. August 28, 2013. Certificates of those ID-cards and residence permit cards issued in 2011, the electronic part of which has not been renewed, were invalidated. The electronic part of 2011 cards can hereafter be renewed for free at Police and Border Guard Board (PBGB) offices. Until the renewal it is not possible to use e–services nor give a digital signature with the document, although the card remains valid as an identity document.

In September of last year, the PBGB began the renewal of the electronic part of the ID and residence permit cards issued in 2011, and all card users have been sent a personal invitation for document renewal via email or mail. By today, the majority of people who also use their ID or residence permit card from 2011 electronically have renewed their document.

You can renew ID and residence permit cards from 2011 for free at a PBGB service hall of your choice. Upon renewal, the card is not replaced, only its electronic part is renewed. The process takes 5-10 minutes and is free of charge.

Those who do not use the electronic opportunities of their ID–card or residence permit card can skip renewing the electronic part of the document. The card is valid as an identity document until its expiry date.

Instructions on what to do if you cannot use e–services and sign digitally with the ID–card, even after renewing the electronic part, can be found on the Certification Centre website .

Please note that information on renewing the ID–card and on its errors is only available from the Police and Border Guard Board phone 612 0300, Certification Centre phone 1777, or at Police and Border Guard Board offices.
