OREANDA-NEWS.  November 06, 2013. The construction teams at Olkiluoto 3 have successfully completed the installation of the reactor vessel head of the Finnish EPR.

This major step for the project marks the completion of the installation of heavy equipment for the Finnish EPR, making it the first EPR with a fully equipped reactor vessel, which is ready to accommodate a “core” of fuel assemblies.

The installation of the reactor vessel head is a highly precise operation and was executed using the EPR’s polar crane. This piece of equipment allows heavy components to be moved around within the reactor building.

“This delicate maneuver is a symbolic step in the history of the EPR reactor, and I would like to congratulate the teams who succeeded in carrying it out with perfection,” stated Jean-Pierre Mouroux, Olkiluoto 3 project director, during a press conference held on site along with representatives of the Finnish utility TVO.
