OREANDA-NEWS  The project of the digital COVID certificate, which is being developed in the European Union and should be operational by the summer, passed the first stage of approvals on Wednesday. This information is reported in a statement by the EU Council.

It is reported that after implementation, the certificate will be valid throughout the EU, as well as in Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. It is noted that the electronic certificate will also be open for global initiatives.

The document notes that in the course of agreeing on the text of the draft law on the certificate, the countries strengthened the provisions on the protection of personal data, and also specifically stipulated that the presence of a certificate would not be a condition for exercising the right to free movement.

It is now expected that the European Parliament will vote on the fast track on April 26-29 to launch negotiations on an electronic certificate with the EU Council and the negotiations will move to the final stage.
