OREANDA-NEWS  Exchange prices for gas in Europe are rising on Thursday, exceeding $750 per thousand cubic meters for the first time since March 23, RIA Novosti estimates based on data from the London ICE exchange.

August (upcoming) futures on the TTF index (Europe's largest hub located in the Netherlands) opened trading at $741.1 (+0.5%). And as of 9.00 Moscow time, the indicator is already rising to 754.5 dollars (+2.3%). The dynamics of quotations is based on the estimated price of the previous trading day - 737.6 dollars per thousand cubic meters.

Gas prices in Europe are above $750 for the first time since March 23.

Gas prices in Europe began to rise on March 2, the first day of trading after the US and Israeli strikes on Iran began. They reached the maximum value for the entire conflict period of $853.7 per thousand cubic meters on March 19, when Qatar, the world's largest LNG producer, sharply reduced production.

As a result, average exchange prices for gas in Europe rose sharply in March by almost 60% compared to February. In April, they decreased by 14%, in May they increased by 5%, and in June they decreased again by 6%.

Gas prices were significantly higher in 2021-2022. There have been no such consistently high prices in the entire history of gas distribution centers in Europe since 1996. And the historical record of $ 3,892 per thousand cubic meters was reached in the early spring of 2022.
