OREANDA-NEWS The Iranian authorities announced a two-fold increase in the price of gasoline, which does not fall under the benefits, because the country's budget is facing a shortage of funds. RIA Novosti writes about this with reference to a message from the Ministry of Oil of the Islamic Republic.

Starting on Tuesday, September 8, a liter of gasoline at the third tariff will cost one hundred thousand rials (about four to five US cents, that is, about four rubles). Before that, under the third tariff, the price of gasoline was 50,000 rials per liter.

Under the preferential tariffs, consumers with a registered vehicle can buy 60 liters of gasoline at a price of 15,000 rials per liter, and then 50 liters at a price of 30,000 rials per liter.

The cost of fuel in Iran is one of the lowest in the world and is subsidized by the state, but such a decision is part of the social policy of the authorities, like, for example, free medicine in the USSR. At the same time, the Iranian population reacts extremely painfully to the revision of such a basic advantage.

Thus, the rise in gasoline prices in November 2019 led to large-scale protests across the country, which claimed the lives of 1.5 thousand people.

Earlier, Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth said that the United States could destroy all Iranian oil tankers in the event of new attacks on American vessels.
