OREANDA-NEWS US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Jeffrey Pyatt said that Washington's goal is to stop the Russian Arctic LNG 2 project. About this, referring to the official's speech at the hearings in the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the US Senate, RIA Novosti reports.

Pyatt noted that last week the United States imposed new sanctions against the Arctic LNG 2 project. According to the official, the American authorities have set themselves the task of liquidating the project.

Therefore, the State Department, Pyatt stressed, in close coordination with the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), is engaged in a critically important matter — "tightening the screws."

Earlier it was reported that the British authorities imposed sanctions against the gold mining company Nord Gold and the metallurgical company for the extraction of precious stones "Krastsvetmet".

In addition, the updated sanctions list includes Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company (UMMC), which also produces gold and precious metals, and gold mining Highland Gold.
