OREANDA-NEWS In early December, chicken meat began to rise in price in Russia again. This is reported by Kommersant with reference to the presentation of the National Union of Pig Breeders and data from the National Union of Poultry Breeders.
Wholesale ken broiler carcass has increased in price by nine percent year-on-year for the first time since July. In the first week of the month, it rose in price by four percent, to 195 rubles per kilogram.
According to Igor Karavaev, chairman of the Presidium of the Association of Retail Companies, meat has risen in price by 5.5 percent in the purchase, but retail prices are growing slower than wholesale prices.
According to Albert Davleev, president of Agrifood Strategies, the initial increase in chicken prices will be seasonal and insignificant. — prices always rise by the end of the year, besides, chicken consumption is growing faster than production (chicken accounts for 55.4 percent of raw meat sales in the country).
The price increase is explained by an increase in costs, including due to avian flu. Anastasia Vyalikova, Director of Agriculture and Food Industry Development at Reksoft, explains the trend with increasing costs for feed, drugs, and incubation eggs.
In the summer of 2024, the cost of the two most popular types of meat — pork and chicken - was almost equal in Russia. Since the beginning of 2024, pork has fallen in price by five percent, in the wholesale segment it cost 171 rubles in early June, according to the assessment of the Ministry of Agriculture. Chicken meat fell in price by almost two percent and cost 162 rubles per kilogram.
