OREANDA-NEWS  Farmers in the Leningrad region may have to reduce the volume of broiler farming, as the Cobb 500 incubation eggs available to them turned out to be far from the same quality. This was reported by Fontanka.

According to the farmers, if previously chickens could be raised to a weight of four kilograms, now they have to rely on a maximum of 2.3 kilos. The problems started in the summer of 2025. There is a risk that farmers will have to raise the prices of their products from 350 rubles per kilogram to 800 in order to remain in the black. And this will affect the willingness of consumers to continue purchases in the same volumes.

Agricultural producers blame the loss of Czech hatching eggs from the Russian market, as the Rosselkhoznadzor has banned the import of products from a number of Czech poultry enterprises into Russia. The only remaining eggs on the local market are hatching eggs from Turkey, the quality of which is often disappointing. It turned out that the Turks couldn't completely copy the Cobb 500.

In turn, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture assured at the end of July that an increase in poultry meat production contributes to a stable price situation on the market. According to the agency, producer prices for chicken meat (in carcasses) have increased by only five percent over the year.
