OREANDA-NEWS. IRU and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission of West Asia (UNESCWA) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation on trade facilitation, road transport development and road safety in the Arab World.  

IRU Secretary General, Umberto de Pretto, and Executive Secretary, Dr Rima Khalaf, and Deputy Executive Secretary, Dr Abdallah Dardari, of the UNESCWA highlighted the importance of this strategic relationship and discussed joint activities and initiatives in the Arab region to support greater economic integration, increase trade, and improve road transport standards.

The MoU incorporates concrete actions including capacity building, research to support Arab countries’ accession to and implementation of key UN trade and transport facilitation instruments, training programmes, work on appropriate regulatory environments for road transport, as well as joint events.
