OREANDA-NEWS The construction of a railway has begun that will connect Rostov-on-Don and Crimea and will pass through the territory of the Zaporozhye region, the head of the region Yevgeny Balitsky told reporters.

"The second project, the construction of which has already begun from Donetsk, is a railway that will run from Akimovka to Rostov through Berdyansk and Mariupol. This project has already started. Akimovka is lower than Melitopol, south-west is just the railway junction from which construction will begin," Balitsky said.

According to him, this will make it possible to protect the movement of railway transport from enemy shelling, which is still shelling the railway running along the city of Pologi in the direction of Orekhov, through Kamysh-Zarya to Volnovakha.
In addition, Balitsky stressed, the existing railway is not only unsafe, but also outdated. The construction of a new one will significantly affect the development of the region's economy, the governor of the region is sure.

"Having built a railway line, at least one track, without electric traction, let it be diesel, but we will solve the tasks of the military. And most importantly, the issue of grain export to the continent, the export of iron ore, scrap, coal and many elements that we need to connect with the mainland today is being resolved. Because driving across the Crimean Bridge is not only far away, but even today the bridge is an object of increased danger," Balitsky concluded.

Earlier, speaking about the regional development program for the next ten years, the governor reported that the authorities intend to implement global infrastructure projects that will provide the Zaporozhye region and neighboring regions with a constant influx of human and financial capital.
