According to the expert, three to four thousand merchants are registered on the Chinese platforms DoCar, Guazi and Xianyu, which specialize in the sale of used cars, offering "strange" cars that are considered used, but practically new. Thus, car companies deliberately create the illusion of high sales, he explained.

The reason for this phenomenon is the record production of cars in China (by the end of the year it increased to 31 million units) and a decrease in profitability. For high sales figures, manufacturers put pressure on dealers to increase car inventories. In turn, sellers, in order to fulfill the plan, quickly return the money and get a discount from the manufacturer, get rid of the "stale goods" and sell them to resellers. Thus, cars are included in sales statistics, but do not leave the warehouse, while sellers of used cars can take advantage of the government subsidy program and give a discount on an actually new car.
