OREANDA-NEWS  Russian Railways has trained Sofia Dorofeeva to operate the Sapsan high-speed train, which runs between Moscow and St. Petersburg. After completing her internship, she will be able to start working as an assistant driver of this train, Russian Railways told RIA Novosti.

The first female train drivers, and then long-distance train drivers, appeared in Russia several years ago. But the Peregrine Falcons didn't have them yet.

"The first female electric train driver in the history of Russian railways, Sofya Dorofeeva, was trained at the training center of the Directorate of High-Speed Communications of Russian Railways in St. Petersburg and received a certificate for the right to operate Sapsan high-speed trains as an assistant driver," Russian Railways said on Thursday.

She is currently undergoing an internship under the guidance of experienced train drivers.

"After successfully completing her internship, Sofya Dorofeeva will be able to start working as an assistant engineer of the Sapsan train," the Russian Railways added.

In August 2020, Russian Railways reported that for the first time in Russia, a girl received the profession of a locomotive engineer after graduating with honors from the Moscow College of Railway and Urban Transport. She became Dorofeeva, who at that time was 21 years old.
