OREANDA-NEWS A special processor is expected to be released for Apple's upcoming anniversary smartphone, which is scheduled for release in 2027, according to reports from the iDrop News publication.

Media outlets have noted that the Taiwanese company, TSMC, has recently discussed developing chips using a 2-nanometer process technology. In the coming years, it is expected that the company will continue to reduce the process technology size below 2 nanometers, and the first unique processors using this new technology will be incorporated into iPhones.

It has been suggested that the devices in the iPhone 18 series, which are expected to be released in the second half of 2026, will feature a 2-nanometer chip. It is also possible that the iPhone 19, which is likely to be released in 2027 to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of Apple's first smartphone, will have a specially designed 1.4-nanometer processor.

According to the publication, 1.4-nanometer process technology is expected to provide a 15% increase in performance and a 30% reduction in power consumption compared to 2-nanometer processors. This is a significant improvement over the current 3-nanometer chips, which have a 30% increase in performance and up to 60% improvement in energy efficiency.

The authors of iDrop News suggest that Apple may introduce the iPhone 20 in 2027, following the same pattern as in 2017 when the iPhone X was released to mark the 10-year anniversary of the first smartphone. Earlier, Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman predicted that price increases for Apple smartphones are inevitable in 2027 due to the use of unique components in the new iPhones.
