OREANDA-NEWS  In 2025, relations between Baku and Moscow successfully developed in almost all areas, despite the aggravation that occurred after December 2024, when the Embraer 190 aircraft of the Azerbaijani company AZAL crashed. 

"The fundamental issue of bilateral relations today is the speedy and fair settlement of all issues related to last December's tragedy," he said.

According to Mustafayev, Baku expects the completion of the investigation into the tragedy of December last year and hopes for the speedy payment of compensation, as well as bringing to justice those responsible for the incident. "The statements made on October 9 in Dushanbe and the agreements reached are an important step in this direction," the ambassador stressed.

On October 9, Russian and Azerbaijani leaders Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev held their first bilateral meeting in Dushanbe since the tragedy. The Russian president revealed a number of important details of the reasons for the incident.

The Embraer 190 aircraft of AZAL Airlines, operating a Baku — Grozny flight, crashed near Aktau on the morning of December 25, 2024. There were 67 people on board, 38 of them did not survive.
