OREANDA-NEWSThe British court agreed to postpone from May a later hearing on the extradition of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to the United States. According to the American news agency, such a decision was made by the judge of the Westminster Magistrates Court of London Vanessa Baraitser at the procedural hearings on Monday.

The Australian defense pointed to the need to postpone the meeting to September due to the outbreak of the disease caused by a new type of coronavirus. In particular, the lawyers said that because of the quarantine introduced, they could not meet with their client for more than a month and during that time they only talked to him over the phone several times. The prosecution side also agreed with this position.

In the end, the judge admitted that, in the current circumstances, extradition hearings could not continue on May 18, as planned. She gave the parties to the defense and the prosecution time until May 4 to determine a new date.
