OREANDA-NEWS Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi did not mention her country's remorse for the crimes committed during the ceremony dedicated to the memory of World War II, thereby trying to whitewash Tokyo's aggression. This was stated by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian, quoted by Xinhua.
"In her speech, Prime Minister Takaichi avoided the words "remorse" and "lessons learned", evasively spoke about Japan's war crimes (...). This once again demonstrates the motives of her administration — to whitewash the history of Japanese aggression," the diplomat said.
Lin Jian stressed that China urges Japanese politicians to "think deeply about their guilt" and completely abandon the militarization of the country.
On August 15, Takaichi delivered a speech marking the anniversary of Japan's withdrawal from World War II, in which she did not mention her remorse for aggression during the conflict. In doing so, she violated the established tradition of the previous heads of the Japanese government.
