OREANDA-NEWS The Chinese launch vehicle Changzheng-8A (Great March-8A) launched another batch of SatNet satellites into orbit on Friday to create a grouping of global Internet coverage, CCTV reported.
The rocket launched from the Wenchang Cosmodrome, which is located on Hainan Island, at 07:26 Beijing time (02:26 Moscow time). The satellites have successfully reached the set orbit.
The launch was carried out as part of the SatNet national satellite Internet system program, aimed at providing global broadband Internet coverage, supporting the country's developing digital economy, national security needs, and international communications. The current group of devices is already the 17th in a row.
Satellites of the Chinese state-owned SatNet group, operated by the China Satellite Network Group, are deployed in low-Earth orbit. It is assumed that the group will consist of 13 thousand vehicles in the future.
The Changzheng-8A liquid-fuel launch vehicle was developed by the Chinese Research Institute of Rocket Technology (CALT). It is capable of launching up to 7 tons of payload into a 700 km high sun-synchronous orbit. The rocket is 50.5 m long and 3.35 m in diameter.
