According to the newspaper, European politicians believe that they have found a way to force Trump to abandon his threats to take Greenland away from Denmark by boycotting the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the United States.

"For Trump, leverage is a currency, and he clearly longs for the World Cup. Europe's involvement is a lever of influence that Trump respects and that they could use if transatlantic relations continue to go downhill," said Adam Hodge, a former National Security Council official in the administration of former American leader Joe Biden.
