OREANDA-NEWS  The eruption of the Shiveluch volcano in Kamchatka began on November 20. According to the Kamchatka volcanic eruption response group, a plume of ash emissions spread 10 km in a north-easterly direction towards Ozernoye Bay. There are no settlements on his way.

Earlier in the day it was reported that Shiveluch is ready for a powerful eruption. The Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the FEB RAS warned that it is dangerous to approach the volcano at a distance of up to 15 km. The ash emission can reach 20 km in a dimeter and reach the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky –Ust-Kamchatsk highway.

Shiveluch is one of the largest volcanoes in Kamchatka. It consists of three main structures: the Old Shiveluch volcano, the ancient caldera and the active Young Shiveluch volcano.

The height of the lava dome of the Young Shiveluch is 2500 m . The nearest village to the volcano Klyuchi is 50 km away, the capital of the Kamchatka Territory Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is 450 km away.

On November 14 , Shiveluch threw a column of ash to a height of up to 5 km . The ash plume spread in a north-easterly direction towards Ozernoye Bay, there were no settlements on its way. In this regard, the volcano was assigned an "orange" aviation hazard code.
