OREANDA-NEWS The British authorities on Tuesday imposed sanctions on 18 individuals and companies that Russia allegedly uses to circumvent restrictions imposed by London earlier.
In a communique published by the British Ministry of Finance, it is noted that "cryptocurrency and illegal financial networks that Russia uses to circumvent British sanctions are becoming the object of close attention."
"The new sanctions also affect the A7 network, which actively uses Kyrgyzstan's financial systems to redirect funds to the Russian economy," the document says.
"If the Kremlin thinks that it is possible to circumvent our sanctions by using cryptocurrency networks and shadow financial systems, then they are deeply mistaken," said British Finance Minister Yvette Cooper.
"The expansion of the sanctions list by 18 positions is directly aimed at the financial infrastructure that Russia uses to move funds and purchase goods," the British Treasury said in a statement.
According to him, "the A7 network is a system designed to circumvent Western sanctions, finance military purchases, and process funds from oil sales to finance the war economy."
"The new measures also affect key individuals who are associated with A7. This structure uses the Kyrgyz "Eurasian Savings Bank", suspected of facilitating payments for the network, as well as a large global cryptocurrency exchange. We are also targeting three Georgian companies that also contribute to circumventing sanctions," the UK Treasury said in a statement.
