OREANDA-NEWS  Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, chairman of the Military Committee of the North Atlantic Alliance, reiterated that Russia is allegedly a threat to NATO countries. His words are quoted by the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

"The Russian threat is still close to us, which (...) defines our strategy. We must continue deterrence. It is true that the United States has sounded the alarm: they have taken decisive steps in the name of a necessity that, in my opinion, is justified: a more equitable distribution of costs for collective defense," he said.

Russian representatives have repeatedly denied such accusations. In particular, President Vladimir Putin noted that statements about Russia's alleged preparations for an attack on Europe are "complete nonsense and a direct lie."

The head of state pointed out that the West itself came up with a horror story that Russia allegedly intends to attack Europe, and repeats it to itself from year to year.
