OREANDA-NEWS On social media, they drew attention to Sony's rule related to the deletion of inactive PlayStation accounts. This is reported by VideoCardz.

According to the portal's journalists, gamers noticed the user agreement clause in early July. PlayStation console owners have found out that if you don't log in to your account for more than three years, Sony can delete your profile. So, user X, under the nickname astaranx, said that it was urgently necessary to warn all owners of PS consoles about this.

VideoCardz's authors have confirmed that Sony can indeed delete an account with games if you do not log in for 36 months or longer. This is specified in clause 21.1 of the terms of service. However, they stressed that this rule was established back in 2019. Moreover, since 2016, this period has been limited to 24 months, and even earlier — since 2009 — to 18 months. At the same time, Sony clarified that they would still warn the user about the deletion and give him 6 months to log in.

Experts acknowledged that 3 years is quite a long time, but at the same time called on Sony to lift this restriction. According to them, Microsoft's competitor has a similar rule, but with one exception — if at least one purchase has been made in the Xbox account, the profile will be saved forever.

Sony previously announced that it would stop producing discs with games for PlayStation consoles starting in 2028. The company explained this step as "a response to changing trends in consumer preferences."
