OREANDA-NEWSThe United States looks forward to working with the new leadership of the European Union in countering the threats that, from Washington’s point of view, come from Russia, China and Iran. This is stated in a statement issued by the US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo on Sunday in connection with the start of the work of the new European Commission (EC) under the leadership of Ursula von der Leyen.

“The United States looks forward to working with this new steering group, as well as with the European Parliament, its chairman David Sassoli and the EU member states to achieve our common goals. Among it's strengthening our trade relations and promoting European energy independence, confronting our common challenges security and democratic values, including threats from Russia, the Chinese Communist Party, and Iran", said Pompeo. According to him, the United States aims to strengthen partnership with the EU "in order to ensure a peaceful and successful future" of its citizens.
