OREANDA-NEWS Information about China's alleged desire to build a military base in the Solomon Islands as part of a bilateral security agreement is not true, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said at a briefing. According to him, these messages were fabricated by a small group of people who are guided by their own ulterior motives.

«The reasoning that China is allegedly building a military base in the Solomon Islands is a fabrication fabricated by a small group of people who are guided by their own ulterior motives», he said.

The Chinese diplomat pointed out that security cooperation between the two countries is based on the principle of mutual equality and mutual benefit. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said earlier that Beijing and the Solomon Islands had signed a framework agreement on security cooperation.

At the end of April, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said that China was building a military base in the Solomon Islands. According to him, this is a red line for both Canberra and Washington. The politician fears the build-up of the Chinese fleet near the Australian maritime border.

The White House also commented on reports about China's plans to build a military base in the Solomon Islands. They said they would respond to the actions of the Chinese side. Last week, an American delegation visited the archipelago, which included representatives of the White House, the State Department and the Pentagon.
