OREANDA-NEWS The special envoy of the Russian president for Syria, Alexander Lavrentyev, stated that the Turkish special operation in the North of the country will cause a new escalation, the Izvestia newspaper reports.

He noted that Russia, including through diplomatic channels, appealed to Turkey with a proposal to refrain from military actions and to resolve the issue peacefully. Lavrentyev stressed that Russia continues to help Syria, where the situation remains difficult.

Earlier, Russia demanded immediate withdrawal from Syria of all foreign forces that are illegally staying there.
