OREANDA-NEWS Vadim Vasilyev, Chargé d'affaires of the Russian Federation in Latvia, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic, the news portal delfi.lv informs.

In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Vasilyev criticized Russia's intention to arrange a salute on October 12 in honor of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Riga from the Nazi troops. In the foreign policy department of the Baltic republic, this initiative is considered unacceptable and “unfriendly”.

“Latvia categorically condemns Russia's attempts to justify recently the crimes jointly committed by Stalin and Hitler, including the conclusion of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. Particularly cynical is the organization in Moscow of the salutes of the “liberation” of the capitals of the Baltic countries on the 80th anniversary of the signing of this pact, ”the agency noted.

The ministry also stated that they “congratulate the world on the victory over Nazism” and immediately reiterated that “for Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, the restoration of freedom and independence occurred 45 years later, since the arrival of the Red Army meant the restoration of the Soviet occupation”.
