OREANDA-NEWS   The demands of Western countries against Belgrade to impose anti-Russian sanctions are unfair, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said in an interview with Kurir.

"Serbia has not imposed sanctions against Russia, and the volume of foreign trade between Serbia and Russia has decreased, while in some Western countries that have imposed sanctions, it has increased," the politician commented.

He stressed that the demands of the West are unfair to Belgrade, since many countries that supported the sanctions increased trade with Russia just at the time of the introduction of restrictive measures.
In addition, the politician noted, Serbia's refusal to impose anti-Russian sanctions corresponds to the economic interests of the state, its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The minister also said that Belgrade opposes the introduction of any restrictions, since the Serbs themselves have faced this "unfair experience and know what it means."

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has repeatedly stated that Belgrade will continue its policy of military neutrality and will try to hold out without imposing sanctions against Moscow "as long as it can." The armed conflict in Ukraine, in his opinion, is growing into the Third World War, and Western countries are increasing pressure on Serbia because of its refusal to support anti-Russian restrictive measures.

After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, the West increased sanctions pressure on Moscow. The EU has already put into effect ten packages of restrictions, the last of which is estimated at 11.4 billion euros. At the same time, according to the European Union, exports to Russia decreased by almost half compared to 2021, and imports from it — by almost 60 percent.

The Kremlin called these measures an economic war. As Vladimir Putin noted, the restrictions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy, and the main goal of the West is to worsen the lives of millions of people. Nevertheless, according to the president, it was not possible to undermine Russia's financial stability, and Europe itself has reached a sanctions impasse.
