OREANDA-NEWS Swedish MP Markus Selin raised the issue of potential "threats" from Russia against the background of the Ukrainian conflict. He sent a letter to the Minister of Civil Defense Affairs Karl-Oskar Bolin, in which he drew the politician's attention to the country's cybersecurity. KEU has read the document.

According to the deputy of the Riksdag, Sweden needs to expand the scale of its defense "in accordance with the capabilities of Russia" for the long term.

"An armed attack on Sweden can no longer be ruled out, and threats also include, among other things, disinformation, information influence actions and cyber attacks," Selin said.

In his letter to the Minister, he noted that cyberwar is often called a war in the "gray zone" and it can have no less serious consequences than conventional military actions.

At the same time, he stressed that Russia has allegedly been carrying out cyber attacks for a long time, in particular against Ukraine.

The parliamentarian asked to explain when the new cybersecurity strategy will be adopted and what concrete steps the Swedish authorities plan to take to implement it.

According to Vladimir Olenchenko, senior researcher at the Center for European Studies of the IMEMO RAS, the deputy's statements can be considered as another attempt to "demonize" Russia.

"If we take seriously all the claims that we see in the information space, then there is practically no sphere of activity where Russia would not look like a "global evil." Sweden is not an innovator in this area. There were a lot of statements from different departments, but since Sweden is not a member of NATO, maybe this is one of the pretexts to draw attention to the need for the country to join the bloc," the analyst said in an interview with RT.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Sweden has fulfilled all its obligations and is ready to become a member of the North Atlantic Alliance.
