OREANDA-NEWS  The Dutch Prosecutor's Office will not request the extradition from the Russian Federation of Igor Chirkin, Sergei Dubinsky and Leonid Kharchenko, convicted in the case of the crash of Boeing flight MH17 in Ukraine in July 2014. This is stated in a statement issued on Thursday by the department.

"The Russian Federation does not extradite citizens," the document says. - Therefore, the extradition of convicts will not be requested. However, work will continue to ensure that convicts serve their sentences. The Prosecutor's office believes that no convict should escape punishment."

Also, the Dutch Prosecutor's office does not intend to appeal against the court's decision in this case. "The Prosecutor's office has not filed an appeal," the document says. - The Prosecutor's office is satisfied that the verdict clarified the factual circumstances related to the crash of flight MH17. The Prosecutor's Office also notes that the court basically agreed with the arguments of the prosecution both on points of evidence of committed offenses and on penalties." As another argument in favor of the decision, the prosecutor's office drew attention to the fact that "filing an appeal will place a heavy burden on the relatives of the victims, because then they will remain even longer in uncertainty about the outcome of the criminal case."

The parties retained the opportunity to appeal the case within 14 days from the date of the decision. Since the convicts Igor Girkin, Sergey Dubinsky and Leonid Kharchenko did not do this, the prosecutor's office believes that all decisions in the case are final. Oleg Pulatov, the fourth defendant and the only one whose interests were represented by two Dutch lawyers, was acquitted.
