OREANDA-NEWS European Parliament deputy Harald Wilimski condemned the plans of the President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen to create a new intelligence agency. His words are reported by TASS.

"Now she wants to take control of the security services and intelligence information. This is a pure abuse of power, a powerful blow to national sovereignty," the MEP said.

According to Wilimski, the EC's decision is another step towards a "systematic concentration of power." He noted that instead of democratic control, von der Leyen is creating a "shadow structure that will put national intelligence services under the supervision of Brussels" without a mandate, transparency and grounds.

Earlier it became known that the European Commission intends to create an intelligence agency to strengthen the EU's security and intelligence capabilities.
