OREANDA-NEWS The countries of the European Union (EU) should act reasonably in the matter of the seizure of personal belongings of Russian citizens entering their territory. This was stated by the representative of the European Commission (EC) Daniel Ferry in an interview with RTVI.

"Yes, Russian cars cannot enter the European Union, this import ban has been in effect for more than a year, and each EU member state must comply with this rule accordingly," he urged.

According to him, the confiscation of things is the prerogative of the EU member states, which decide on the exact way to interpret and apply the system based on this rule. "When it comes to other points, Member States should take into account the proportionality and reasonableness of the situation," Ferry explained.

According to him, the EC has prepared "some instructions" for EU states on how to apply in practice the rules on the ban on the import of certain goods from Russia. "Ultimately, it is the competence of the authorities of these states to implement sanctions," he stressed. "And, as I said, when it comes to everyday practice, they have to act in a proportionate way."

Earlier in October, it became known that about a hundred cars with Russian registration refused to be allowed into Finland from the Leningrad region. From September 16 to September 30, more than 8.2 thousand passenger vehicles, more than 600 of them with Russian license plates, were issued through the automobile points Torfyanovka, Brusnichnoye and Svetogorsk in the direction from the Russian Federation.
