OREANDA-NEWS  The US President, Donald Trump, has called for the resumption of the Keystone XL oil pipeline project. The project was intended to connect Canada and the US state of Nebraska, but it has been halted due to concerns about the environmental impact.

According to Bloomberg, Trump has promised to make it easier to obtain permits and start construction quickly. However, SouthBow Corp, the company in charge of the project, has already informed the president that they cannot proceed with construction because of the dismantling of necessary infrastructure and expiry of key permits.
Despite these obstacles, Trump insists on building the pipeline. He believes that it did not move forward during his first term because of opposition from the administrations of former Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama. These administrations listened to environmental concerns and stopped the project. Trump wants to show that he is not afraid to take bold steps and protect American energy interests.

The nearly two-thousand-kilometer oil pipeline project has been a subject of political dispute for the past ten years. However, recent developments have complicated its continuation. Trump's plans to turn Canada into a US state and his threat to impose a 25% tariff on all goods has increased anti-American sentiment in Canada.

Due to this, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has not ruled out a ban on energy exports to the US, including oil. This could create obstacles to the approval of the pipeline project across the border.

Since returning to office, Trump has repeatedly returned to the oil and gas market. He has demanded that American companies increase production more quickly, insisted that OPEC countries increase oil production faster to sharply lower prices, and promised to finish the Constellation pipeline's construction to transport natural gas to New York. The developer abandoned this project in 2020, though.
