OREANDA-NEWSThe appointed head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, presented her work priorities for the next five years. She addressed the European MPs with a thirty-minute speech on Wednesday at a session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

She emphasized that as the first woman to head the European Commission, she considers it necessary "that the principle of gender equality be respected at all levels". “In any case, we must be one team that works for the benefit of common interests. My message is simple - let's get to work”, said von der Lajen.

During her speech, she focused on several areas, the work in which she considers a priority. Among them are climate protection, the development of digital technology and innovation. “We must continue to follow our European path into the digital age,” she said. “It's important to develop rules on how to take responsibility in the field of digital information. For us Europeans, the protection of digital data is a top priority. But at the same time, we want to support innovation”, she emphasized. Europe, she said, could play a "leading role in the digital field".
