OREANDA-NEWS According to the results of the first three months of 2026, the total volume of French wine supplies to Russia increased by more than 10 times in monetary terms compared to the same period in 2025. A sharp increase in exports from the NATO country is reported by RIA Novosti, citing data from the Statistical Service of the European Union (Eurostat).
During the reporting period, French suppliers shipped over nine million euros worth of wine to Russia. For comparison, in January-March 2025, the indicator was at the level of 700 thousand euros. Thus, the cost of supplies increased by about 12.9 times over the year.
Such dynamics allowed the country to secure the fourth place in the list of the largest European wine exporters to the Russian market. Italy turned out to be the leader of the rating with a score of 45.2 million euros, Latvia (22 million) and Poland (16 million) also entered the top 3.
Georgia became another important supplier of wine in early 2026. In January-April, suppliers from the post-Soviet country exported to Russia almost 15.3 thousand tons worth about $ 45 million.
A sharp increase in wine purchases abroad is being recorded against the background of a rapid decline in the production of this alcohol on the Russian market. Experts attributed this trend to a number of factors, including a record high base last year, an increase in the tax burden on manufacturers, stricter excise taxes and a decrease in the purchasing power of the population.
