OREANDA-NEWS An acceptable key rate for the Russian car market in 2026 would be 13-13.5 percent, but the current level is a barrier for the industry. This was stated by the head of the domestic concern AvtoVAZ Maxim Sokolov, quoted by TASS.

The company's management expects the regulator to continue its policy of easing monetary policy. This would provide an additional incentive for the development of the Russian automotive industry. Lowering the key interest rate would be a significant prerequisite for increasing car sales in the domestic market. "The rate of 13-13.5 percent will become a driver for sales of both domestic and imported cars," Sokolov concluded.

Currently, he noted, the possibilities for lending to Russian automakers are very limited. This plays into the hands of foreign manufacturers, Sokolov complained. The head of the company explained that foreign brands have more opportunities to attract relatively cheap resources in foreign financial markets. As a result, they can actively subsidize market rates on car loans. "The difference in access to financing does not play in our favor," Sokolov stated.

Earlier, Sergey Tishin, acting Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Samara Region, predicted the absence of a net profit for AvtoVAZ in the next few years. Against the background of falling demand in the Russian car market, the company's costs increased significantly, which eventually led to the transfer of factory employees for four days. It will be possible to count on a revival of sales, taking into account the tight PREP of the Central Bank, the general rise in car prices, low availability of car loans and regular increase in recycling, no earlier than next spring, said Andrey Terlyukevich, head of the Avtospeccenter group of companies.

The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation has detained a resident of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) for an attempted assassination of a high-ranking officer of the Ministry of Defense. This is reported by RIA Novosti.

The operatives found out that the attacker was acting on instructions from the military intelligence of Ukraine. He had to mix a mixture of British-made poisons into gift beer bottles of such strength that if they got into the body, they would cause painful death within 20 minutes.

Earlier it became known that the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine attempted to assassinate the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Sergei Shoigu. It was planned when the official was visiting his deceased relatives. At that time, three people were detained — two Russian citizens and a migrant from Central Asia.
