OREANDA-NEWS  Belarus wanted to introduce a digital ruble. The timing of this process was named by the head of the National Bank of the Republic Roman Golovchenko, quoted by TASS.

According to the representative of the regulator, business entities will be able to use the new currency format in the second half of 2026. By 2027, it will be available to both government agencies and individuals.

"We are actively working on its creation. First of all, we are faced, of course, with the issue of the safety of funds. It's a matter of what I call the colorability of these products. That is, for the state, for example, it will be very important to be able to track how digital money flows through the entire chain," he explained.

The National Bank is currently faced with the task of defining the requirements for the platform for the circulation of the Belarusian digital ruble, creating domestic software for working with the new currency format, and preparing a regulatory framework for regulating payments.

In Belarus, they are thinking about using the digital ruble in 2025. This was stated by Mikhail Demidenko, Deputy Head of the Research and Strategic Development Department of the National Bank of the Republic. At the first stage, it is planned to introduce the Belarusian digital currency in a limited amount. Next year, real-value b2b payments and possibly cross-border payments are planned, Demidenko said.
