OREANDA-NEWS  Belgium has frozen Russian assets worth €58 billion, which is the largest amount among all European states, according to a statement on the website of Finance Minister Vincent Van Petegem.

"The Treasury has frozen Russian assets worth €58 billion. This is the highest indicator among all European member states," the report says. In August last year, the amount was €50.5 billion.

 The report states that "the measures affect 1,789 Russian companies or citizens blacklisted."

The Belgian customs, the Ministry of Finance points out, has tightened checks against Russia and Belarus. More than 90 thousand declarations and almost 8 thousand containers were checked. The country also requested additional information about about 30 thousand containers that were transshipped. Now more than 500 containers are blocked in Belgian ports, as the requested information on them is expected to be received. Due to violations of import and export rules, the country has started about 20 lawsuits, another 15 are being prepared.
