OREANDA-NEWS  Hungary will block the European Union's plan to provide Ukraine with financial assistance in the amount of €18 billion. This is reported by Bloomberg with reference to sources.

It is noted that representatives of Budapest told the finance ministers of the EU countries at a meeting in Brussels that they would not support the preparation of a package of assistance to Kiev for 2023.

According to the agency, the European Commission will propose on November 9 to provide Ukraine with preferential loans on a more stable basis, but additional reserves available in the EU budget will be needed to implement this initiative.

"Hungarian Finance Minister Michali Varga told his colleagues that he would not support such an option, which requires the unanimous support of 27 governments," the Bloomberg article says.

Earlier, Czech Finance Minister Zbynek Stanyura said that instead of the $9 billion that the European Union promised to allocate to Ukraine in May this year, Kiev received only $3 billion.
