OREANDA-NEWS   Laptops have fallen sharply in price in Russia — prices for some brands have collapsed by 15-30 percent since the fall of 2022, Izvestia writes, citing industry representatives. The overstocking of the market led to this — by the end of the year, Chinese-made laptops flooded into the country, and parallel imports also began to work. In addition, the Russians have reduced demand amid savings.

Prices have decreased, in particular, for Huawei and MSI products. The journalists analyzed the prices by random inspection in Yandex and found out that a number of MSI PLUS laptops from the beginning of October 2022 to the end of January fell by about 24 percent, to an average of 104 thousand rubles, and the Huawei MateBook B3-520 model by 30 percent, to 60 thousand rubles.

The cost of one of the Huawei D15 series models has decreased by an average of 15 percent since the beginning of December. However, the publication notes that the trend has not affected all devices of these and other brands — a number of models have fallen slightly, and others have even increased in price.

According to Roman Ovsienko, the head of the "Laptops" direction of diHouse, the greatest competition has developed in the segment of gaming models against the background of a sharp increase in the share of MSI. The expansion of the brand led not only to a serious oversupply, but also to price wars — at the moment sellers had to reduce the cost of some game models by 30 percent. According to the expert's forecast, the oversupply will continue during the first half of 2023.

In "M.Video" and "Eldorado" confirmed that they now have almost 700 names of laptops of various brands, which is a third more than the average of 2022. At the same time, the shortage of laptops lasted since the spring of 2022. In the second quarter of the year, many of the world's leading companies stopped deliveries to Russia — during this period, 528 thousand PCs (laptops and desktops) were sold in the country, which is 40 percent less than the level of the first quarter, one of the retailers told the publication.

Eldar Murtazin, a leading analyst at Mobile Research Group, estimates a 25 percent drop in laptop prices since autumn. Overstocking is also due to the fact that Russians have to save money, and a new computer is not an essential thing, said Denis Kuskov, CEO of TelecomDaily. In mid-October, the Russian Central Bank stated that against the background of falling real disposable incomes, worsening consumer sentiment and increasing uncertainty, citizens began to switch to economy mode.
