OREANDA-NEWS  Commissions for operations are very high, they need to be reduced, the chairman of the Bank of Russia Elvira Nabiullina said in the State Duma.

"Indeed, what is called transaction costs, and in fact, the costs of conducting transactions are quite high. Acquiring commissions are also high. The topic of reducing transaction costs should be addressed," she said and added that the Central Bank is developing different solutions in the payment system.

One of such solutions, according to her, may be the use of the digital ruble in the future (it is assumed that the rates for transfers there will not be higher than in the System of fast payments, SBP).

Nabiullina stressed that the regulation of acquiring commissions does not lead to lower prices for consumers. "Ultimately, there is simply a redistribution of profits between banks and trading companies. This does not affect prices for the end consumer in any way," she said.

The Central Bank believes that the development of competition will allow solving the problem of high acquiring commissions. SBP is one of the elements of this competition, Nabiullina noted.

According to her, the number of trade and service enterprises in the SBP has tripled since the beginning of the year - up to 500 thousand companies. The number of transactions in the SBP has increased 18 times since the beginning of the year, the amount of payments has increased 8.5 times, the head of the Central Bank added.

"We need to promote this system more actively so that it becomes convenient, so that there is an appropriate customer path, so that it is actively used, because it is cheaper," Nabiullina said.
