OREANDA-NEWS Russia's entry into the world's largest economies, combined with other factors, suggests the country's sovereignty and the ability to pursue an independent macroeconomic policy, Andrei Smirnov, an expert on the stock market at BCS World Investments, told RIA Novosti.
According to the results of last year, Russia became the fourth economy in the world - the country's GDP for the first time exceeded $ 7 trillion at purchasing power parity, follows from the IMF data and RIA Novosti's own calculations. The top three world leaders in this indicator are China, the United States and India.
"The status of one of the largest economies in the world does not solve much by itself. Another thing is the pace of economic growth and quite successful resistance to the policy of isolation (as in the case of Iran, North Korea). Together with the developed defense industry and the agricultural sector, this allows us to talk about the country's sovereignty, the ability to pursue an independent macroeconomic policy, and act as one of the initiators of de-dollarization and multipolarity," the expert said.
The analyst recalled that last year Japan took the fifth place in the GDP ranking in terms of purchasing power parity. "Russia's lead is relatively small, which means it is quite possible to fight for the fourth position. The cooling of the Russian economy after the shock growth last year may have an impact," he said.
