OREANDA-NEWS In the first quarter of 2023, the number of bankrupt citizens, including individual entrepreneurs, sharply increased in Russia, Izvestia writes with reference to Fedresurs data. 76 thousand Russians were declared insolvent, which is 40.3 percent more than in the same period of 2022.

The growth rate has changed little since last year — then in January-March the number of bankrupts increased by 33.6 percent, to 54.2 thousand. The leader in the number of bankruptcies was Moscow, which closed the top three a year earlier. In the first quarter, 3.63 thousand people were declared bankrupt in the capital (an increase of 45.5 percent).

It is followed by the Moscow Region with an indicator of 3.6 thousand (an increase of 41.2 percent) and the Krasnodar Territory (3.5 thousand, plus 33.5 percent). Bashkortostan is also the leader in the top five (3.2 thousand, an increase of 34.8 percent) and the Sverdlovsk region (2.7 thousand, an increase of 22.2 percent).

The bankruptcy procedure through the court allows you to get rid of unbearable debts and is relevant in any economic conditions, according to the first deputy head of the Ministry of Economic Development Ilya Torosov. He explains the dynamics of the growing awareness of citizens about the possibility of debt cancellation and confidence in this tool.

At the same time, the head of Fedresurs, Alexey Yukhnin, notes that the growth rate of judicial bankruptcies has stabilized, and does not expect them to accelerate in the near future. "The novelty effect of the procedure has already exhausted itself," he explained. It is worth waiting for a sharp increase in their number only in case of a sharp change in the economic situation.

At the end of March, it was reported that in 2022 it became more difficult for Russians to get out of the debt pit. The maturity of an overdue bank loan has increased by an average of two years and three months. The indicator has become a record in five years — back in 2021, the deadline for getting out of the debt pit was five months less.
