OREANDA-NEWS Following the results of trading on Monday, November 2, the Moscow Exchange index fell by 2.28 percent, or 58 points, to 2,458 points. This is evidenced by the data of the site.

The last time the index lost more than 50 points was in mid-September. Tatneft (minus 4.47 percent), Lukoil (minus 3.57 percent) and Novatek (minus 3.4 percent) became the leaders of the decline among the largest companies.

Analysts cite the desire of investors to lock in profits after recent growth, falling oil prices, as well as geopolitical uncertainty as the main reasons for the decline.

The latter factor is determined both by the midterm elections to the US Congress, which will be held on November 3, and by the resumption this month of trilateral negotiations involving the United States, Russia and Ukraine on stopping hostilities.

At the same time, if the Democratic Party gains control of both houses of Congress, the White House's position on many important positions for the Russian market may be revised.
