OREANDA-NEWS The Institute of National Economic Forecasting of the Russian Academy of Sciences (INP RAS), commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Development, will develop the first socio-economic macro forecast of the Union State of Russia and Belarus. The contract for the amount of 12 million rubles involves not only the development of a methodology for making a forecast, but also the testing of the developed approaches in practice, RBC reports.

Russia and Belarus signed an agreement on the development of a macro forecast at the end of last year. In particular, the document implies the exchange of information on the macroeconomic situation in the countries. Before that, in April 2022, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko called for the creation of a new economic strategy for the development of the Union State. "We have one fatherland, even though we live in different states," he said at the time.

The purpose of the plan for the implementation of the agreement in the Russian Ministry of Economy called "increasing the validity of operational assessments and forecasting of the economic development of the Union State, as well as the convergence of macroeconomic policies of Russia and Belarus."

According to the contract, by the end of October 2024, the contractor must prepare the basic parameters of the forecast of the Union State for the medium term. Before that, at the first stage of the work, they will determine which set of information from the member states is needed to develop a forecast, how the indicators of socio-economic development of the two countries are compared with each other, as well as the structure of the forecast, the procedure for its coordination and approval.

The agreement on the creation of the Union State, implying the creation of a single economic, foreign policy, budgetary and tax space, the unification of energy, transport and customs systems, Russia and Belarus concluded in 1999. In 2021, the countries agreed to implement 28 union programs in the financial, energy, transport and other spheres. In January 2023, Lukashenko complained that Minsk has not yet felt noticeable progress in the implementation of actions on economic integration.
