OREANDA-NEWS  The authorities of the Orenburg region have introduced a state of emergency in the region due to the difficult flood situation.

"I have introduced an emergency regime on the territory of the Orenburg region. This is necessary in order to promptly carry out flood control measures, minimize possible damage to residents and infrastructure facilities," Denis Pasler, the head of Orenburg region, wrote in his telegram channel on Thursday.

The management of the emergency response is entrusted to the first vice-governor Sergei Balykin, control is over the head of the region.

The Governor noted the need to "concentrate all resources for the organization of emergency rescue operations, preventatively evacuate residents from dangerous areas, provide fuel supplies, food, basic necessities, the safety of personal property of residents and the protection of public order throughout the region."

According to him, specialists in municipalities prepare stocks of soil and other materials for filling and strengthening roads, dams, ensure the operation of temporary accommodation facilities with mandatory food, water, medical care and medicines.

On the air of the Rossiya-24 TV channel (VGTRK) on Thursday, Pasler said that flood events in the Orenburg region are expected to end in two to three weeks.

"The duration (of the flood), I think there will be two or three more weeks," the head of the region said.

He noted that the region has the longest border with Kazakhstan, where the flood is also currently taking place, so the water reaches the border settlements. Meltwater also enters Orenburg region from Bashkiria and the Chelyabinsk region. Given that the region is geographically elongated and located in several climatic zones, snowmelt is uneven in each part.

According to the governor, in the village of Krasnokholm, where a tense situation is currently observed, the peak of the flood will last for another 2-3 days. The same time frame is generally applicable for the rest of the central and eastern part of the region. In the future, the meltwater will flow to the west, closer to the Samara region, he added.

Touching upon the topic of compensation, Pasler said that money to victims in the emergency zone will be paid according to their applications from the funds of the reserve fund of the region.

"All regulatory documents were adopted earlier. Money for this is provided in the reserve fund, therefore, where, of course, appropriate regimes are introduced, well, for example, in Krasnokholm, then money, of course, will be given in full according to appeals," he said.

Earlier it was reported that currently 543 houses and 2274 household plots on the territory of 15 municipalities have been flooded with meltwater in Orenburg region. In total, 1,473 people were evacuated from the flood zone, 381 of them children.

In total, at the moment flooding has been recorded in 14 districts, three urban districts and three cities of Orenburg region.
