OREANDA-NEWS. Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev said that the Council of Europe has ceased to be an organization that adheres to the Charter of Paris, signed in 1990.

“Rest in peace, Charter of Paris. You were trampled, destroyed and buried. The Council of Europe, as the guarantor of its ideals and values, has also irreversibly fallen asleep in the Bose. Well, it still makes sense to fight for the OSCE, and even more so for the UN. What Russia, I am sure, will do consistently and proactively,” he wrote in the Telegram channel.

On March 10, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Russia had decided to withdraw from the Council of Europe. The department explained that this decision is due to the fact that the EU and NATO are abusing the fact that their representatives are in the majority in the CMCE, and adhere to the line of "destroying the organization and the common humanitarian legal space in Europe."

On March 16, the Council of Europe announced the exclusion of Russia from the organization. The organization noted that at an extraordinary meeting, as part of the procedure initiated in accordance with Article 8 of the Charter of the Council of Europe, the Cabinet of Ministers decided that the Russian Federation ceases to be a member of the Council of Europe from March 16, after 26 years of participation in the work of the Council.

Later, the US proposed to exclude Russia from the UN Human Rights Council.
