OREANDA-NEWS The Federated States of Micronesia announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Russia due to the situation in Ukraine. This was reported in the government of the Pacific country, which also sent a note about it to the Russian Embassy in the Philippines, RIA Novosti reported.

"Diplomatic relations between the two countries have been severed," the Cabinet of Ministers of Micronesia said in a statement.

The FSM is ready to restore relations with Russia, provided that it demonstrates a commitment to peace, friendship and cooperation, the country's authorities added.

Micronesian President David Panuelo said that his country followed the example of its Ukrainian partners, who also severed diplomatic relations with Russia.

The FSM government thereby expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people and the authorities of Nezalezhnaya.

Russia and Micronesia established diplomatic relations on March 9, 1999.

Earlier, in Russia, the country's airspace was closed for flights of UK aircraft, including transit flights. This was stated in the Federal Air Transport Agency.

"This measure was taken in accordance with the provisions of the Intergovernmental Agreement on Air Traffic between Russia and the United Kingdom as a response to unfriendly decisions of the British Aviation Authorities regarding restrictions on regular flights of aircraft owned, leased or operated by a person associated with Russia or registered in Russia," the message says.
